Samantha Kies-Ryan

Samantha is a communication and social impact specialist. She is an experienced communications and media professional with 15 years' experience working in Australia and the Pacific in communication for development and social change, community-based media across print, radio, digital storytelling and film. She has a Bachelor degree in Communication, Media and Culture from the University of South Australia and a Master degree in Communication for Social Change from the University of Queensland. Samantha recently completed her professional Doctorate at the Queensland University of Technology, which was focused on community cultural story mapping in community-based water management in the Solomon Islands.

Samantha works for a range of different clients in sustainable resource management- from the United Nations Development Program, World Bank, the Food and Agriculture Organisation to NGOs such as OneReef Worldwide Stewardship and World Wildlife Fund Pacific.

Samantha is a practice-based researcher and focuses on community-based action research. She was a Research Innovation and Collaboration Exchange (RICE) Fellow at the East West Centre in 2024. Samantha is currently an Adjunct Research Fellow at the Australian Center for Pacific Islands Research at the University of the Sunshine Coast.
